Yaz
Hello Everybody,
My name is Becky Cordo. My fiance, Matt Hopkins and I just adopted a puppy named "Billy" from the Blude Dog Shelter two weeks ago and I wanted to give everyone an update and I will attach some photos for you.
First of, his new name is Yaz for the red sox baseball player Carl Yastrzemski (we are pretty much die hard Red Sox fans). He loves his new name and it fits him well. He is such a sweet, friendly, playful puppy. He is the exact dog that we were looking for. We take him pretty much everywhere with us. He loves riding in the car, going for walks and he is extremely smart. The first weekend we had him we taught him sit and paw and we are currently working on stay and down. He starts his puppy manners classes on this Tuesday, February 13th. We are all really looking forward to that. He goes for his first vet visit this Saturday so he can meet his new doc. Everyone that meets this little pup just falls in love with him as he is so loveable and he loves to give kisses. We are still working on the house training aspect but he is getting much better as the days go on. We are all so happy that we have Yaz. He fits in to our family perfectly. He tries to play with our cats however they do not enjoy playing with him as he is too big, although they all sleep together. We are currently looking for a friend for Yaz. We are looking to adopt again to complete our family. Yaz loves other dogs so we are looking to give him a playmate.
My fiance and I will both keep you posted. We want to thank everyone at the Blue dog shelter for all their help during the adoption process. Everyone helped to make the process as smooth as possible.
Thank you again,
Becky, Matt, Anthony and Yaz |

Millie
Hi- I've attached a picture of Millie. She was called 'Posie' and was one of 6 pups from Arkansas. I adopted her from you this past May. She was listed as a Bassett mix and now we think she is part Wookie (remember Chewbacca from Star Wars?) because she talks to us. She is a great dog. She was delighted to have a tree set up so she could get that outdoor nap in the living room.
She has been the best gift I could receive this year.
Thank you,
Christine Bagley |

Brady
Update on Brady 10/1/08:
Brady turned 7 this past September 1st, we all celebrated with a special ice cream cake, he like's his ice cream! Thankfully for him we forgot the birthday hats this time around. The poor guy get dressed up enough with all the other occasions,,,i.e.. Halloween, Christmas, Thanksgiving... you'll see in the pictures.
I was trying to bring Brady to work with me as much as possible. But a lot of the time it would depend on the conditions, like weather, to Hot or to Cold or just to dangerous around the job site for him. On the days he couldn't go to work I'd leave him home with the run of the house, where he was always well behaved. I just felt bad leaving him. So last December I adopted Bella, a 2-3 year old black & rust female Doberman w/ natural ears from DRU, Doberman Rescue Unlimited up in Sandown NH. I was very selective of what dog I would bring into the household to be with Brady. Looking back I don't think there could have been a better match, they get along Sooo well, it's unbelievable. They love each other! Bella has been so good for Brady, they play together constantly whether they're inside or out in the yard.
I've finally started to use the mobile-home that I bought 3 year's ago up in New Hampshire. So Bella & Brady have been going up to the lake every weekend this summer. My trailer has a nice big deck off the front of it, I built gates on both entrances to the deck to keep the dogs inside. They like to lay out there together sunning themselves and watching all the activities going on in the campgrounds. What a life!
Weather permitting (when it's not raining) I've been taking them out in the boat with me. They sit in the back seat, calm as could be, as we do 50 -60 mph across the lake on our way over to the "sandbar" where we all hang around. Once they're at the sandbar they take a little swim to cool off and then it time for a little sunbathing and then a nap, "once again what a life!". Sometimes I float them around, one at a time of course, on an air mattress. That works out pretty well until they get excited about something, at which point they usually end up in the lake. Not a problem though, the water is only waist deep, so Brady will just stand there on his back legs and rest his front paws on my waist or I'll hold out my arm for him to hang onto. Brady can swim! He's the first of 5 Doberman's that I've have that can swim. Bella couldn't swim until she seen how Brady did it, now she's like a fish, won't stop, she loves to chase the wild ducks.
To everyone at the Brockton Blue Dog Shelter,
Brady continues to do excellent in his forever home. The two of us have bonded so quickly, I'm just so pleased to have him. I'll continue to keep you updated on his status.
Thank you all again!
Sincerely,
Rich Lumsden

Disco
As a veterinary technician, I make it a rule not to fall in love with the thousands of animals I have had the opportunity to take into my home during my career. I was doing a pretty good job in following my own advice as I had kept it rather conservative at 1 dog, 2 cats and a guinea pig.
It all happened innocently enough. While at a Blue Dog meeting at the shelter, Sandra said I just had to see the cutest puppy "ever". Well, the skeptic in me thought I had already seen all the cutest puppies ever! When she brought "Disco" out to meet us, it was literally love at first sight! She was a little Chihuahua mix, with long legs and colored like a Holstein cow! It only took me a moment to call my husband and "inform" him that we were adopting this puppy. Have I mentioned my other dog's name? Jazz. Jazz & Disco...I thought it was fate!
Introductions with Jazz and the kids could not have gone better, but her first impression made upon my husband left a little to be desired, as she peed right on the couch while saying her first hello! Needless to say, he fell in love with her anyway, and she has become a wonderful addition to our family.

Charlie the Cockamamie Cockapoo
Charlie is doing great. We still have to figure out a way to train him not to run head on at other dogs, as not all of them are friendly. Food seems to get his attention pretty quickly, especially the smelly liver treats. (Don't ever go out shopping with them in your pocket. You'll find yourself wandering around a store thinking, "It sure smells funny in here." It's pretty horrifying when you realize it's you.) He's getting lots of exercise (so am I) and I'm hoping that will help to decrease his chewing. We must own $500 worth of chew toys now! Our trainer thinks he is very smart and is impressed at how quickly he learns. We've taught him the "touch" command (to touch my hand in different positions with his nose) and it only took about 3 minutes for him to get the idea! He now jumps through a hula-hoop with this command, and I am going to get some bells to hang on our door to see if we can get him to bang those when he wants to go out. Everyone thinks he is the cutest dog alive!
Thanks for Charlie,
Pam Haran
An update on Charlie...
Dear Jeni, Just wanted to update you on Charlie. He is one happy dog!
He is doing very well in our family. Charlie has now been to obedience
training, agility training and therapy dog training. He is ceritfied as
a therapy dog, but we haven't been able to visit too much because I have
been too busy lately. He still loves everyone he meets! And everyone who
sees him thinks he is the cutest dog they have ever seen! His separation
anxiety has lessened a great deal (food stuffed dog toys helped there),
and he can be left loose on the first floor of our house with no
problems when we are not home. He still doesn't bark to go out, but we
take him out very regularly and he has had very few accidents. He really
is a great dog, and people can't believe we found him in a shelter.
Thanks again for Charlie,
Pam Haran
December 2008 Update on Charlie
Dear Jeni, Just to update you on Charlie the cockapoo whom we adopted in October 2006. He is still doing great. He loves everybody he meets and makes people smile. He passed therapy dog training (just barely!), and he has been visiting a lady with alzheimers when my schedule allows--which is not nearly enough. But he seems to bring her some happiness. He also still practices agility moves in our backyard (we got some new equipment for Christmas) and loves to chase his ball. He especially enjoys visits to the dogpark, and visiting with three neighborhood dogs--they have playdates. Charlie brings lots of joy to our family, and I am doing my best to make sure my husband doesn't spoil him rotten. Thanks for a wonderful dog. Pam Haran and David Godkin |
