Why Adoption is Special to Us

We are not just an adoption facility. We stand behind all of our adoptions, and we believe in placing dogs in their final home.

All dogs in our foster care are actively being socialized; crate trained and has begun to learn basic obedience and manners. BBDS works at correcting or intercepting any issues an adoption animal may have.

We believe a well-trained dog, placed with a well-trained and educated family, ensures a long and happy relationship. Because of this belief, we require all of our adoptive families to commit to working with their dog in our parent facility, J.M. K-9 Training, or another motivational training facility. This way, owners understand the language their dog has learned.

BBDS spays or neuters every animal before it goes to its new family. This way, we ensure the best possible health, fewer behavior problems, and our adopted animals are not contributing to the area's pet overpopulation. In addition, all BBDS dogs are up to date on age appropriate vaccines including Distemper, Rabies and Bordatella. All dogs 6 months and older have been 3DX tested for heartworm disease, lyme disease and erlichia. In addition, all of our adoption dogs are micro chipped and will come with 30 days of FREE Sheltercare Animal Insurance for their new pets. Click here for details

Lastly, we often take the local dogs that do not have any other hope. Other rescue programs call us when there is no other option. We accept the large and/or older animals that are more difficult to adopt out. We take sick animals that other facilities do not have the resources to nurse. We undertake the animals with behavior problems to work on. Depending on funds we try to make a special place for each of these dogs at the BBDS.

Did you Know That We House The West Bridgewater and Easton Animal Control Facilities?
That's right in 2005 it was brought to our attention that West Bridgewater did not have animal control officers or a facility for their stray dogs. Our parent facility, J.M K-9 Training decided to fill this need, and help the animals in this area. Our founder, Jeni Mather and her husband took on the role of on-call animal control officers and are still to this day the WB ACOs. Each dog that is brought in as a West Bridgewater stray is given 10 days at J.M K-9 Training as a West Bridgewater animal control dog. If the dog is not claimed by the end of the 10 day quarantine then the abandoned dogs become Blue Dog Shelter Dogs. This way these dogs would be privy to all of the luxuries that a Blue Dog is entitled to. They would get excellent veterinary care, socialization, and once they pass our temperament tests will be placed for adoption.

In 2005 Jeni was made aware that Easton was having a problem with their animal control facility and the placements of their beloved strays. At that time, the same arrangement was set up with the town of Easton in order to make sure that their strays would have a warm place to lay their heads and a great shelter to take them over once their 10 days were up.

The arrangements with the towns of West Bridgewater and Easton animal control facilities have been a great success. Many people are not aware of the great care and shelter that these local dogs are provided through the Brockton Blue Dog Shelter.
