10-Year Old Girl Gives a Very Special Gift
Katia Greene is a very selfless young girl. Most kids her age can’t wait for their next birthday party or the holidays to get their pile of presents. Katia, on the other hand, went a different route.
A little over a year ago, Katia and her family walked in to the Brockton Blue Dog Shelter which is housed at the JMK-9 facility on West Chestnut Street in Brockton, MA looking for a special dog named Snoopy. The family had read a story in the Pet Gazette on Snoopy and how he had been in the shelter for more than a year. He was a geriatric dog who needed a loving family to give him a forever home. Well that day, Snoopy found a loving family that was willing to take him home and make him their new family member.
This past November the shelter got a surprise visit from Snoopy and his family with many packages in tow. Katia had just had her 10th birthday. Instead of the usual toys, games, and clothes that a 10 year old would want, Katia requested that her friends and family bring things that were on the Shelter’s wish list. They all did as requested and brought her so many wonderful things that they shelter can use – crates, treats, blankets, toys, etc. Katia, Snoopy and the rest of her family brought everything down and donated the items to the shelter.
Jeni Mather, President of JMK-9 and founder of Brockton Blue Dog Shelter was there to receive all of the wonderful gifts. She was floored to see the generosity of this 10 year old girl. “What 10 year old would give up their birthday presents to help shelter dogs?” Jeni asked. Katia’s proud mother turned to her and said, “I know of one other…her brother did the same thing for his 10th birthday.” Brockton Blue Dog Shelter would like to thank the Greene family for their extremely generous donation and for being a great family for Snoopy. |
